Get Caught Reading Week

The pupils have been taking part in various activities over the week for the Burgess Hill ‘Get Caught Reading Week’.

Badger class enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters on the Book Character Day. There was Little Bo Peep, Goldilocks, Thing 2, a chimney sweeper and lots more. Everyone had great fun!

On Thursday Class 4AR invited members of Age Concern Hassocks to a tea party at the College Site to mark the occasion of the ‘Get Caught Reading Week’. Students gave a recital of an excerpt of ‘The Gruffalo’ as a PowerPoint presentation put together by Penny Langridge. Students baked scones and fairy cakes and served them to their guests. A very social occasion enjoyed by all! During the week senior staff have also been rewarding students found reading, with stickers and treats.

5BW went to Crawley Library on Monday and made some surprising finds – did you know that there is a special TEENS section with sofas – information books, easy readers and graphic novels? We also found books in large print, in Braille and in many different languages, audio books to listen to on MP3 and CD and DVDs and music CDs to borrow (at a small charge). Also did you know you can take out 20 books at a time – that’s a lot of reading!

We were shown around all three levels by a lovely lady called Kim Tucker and finished up with 2 interactive stories – one about a football match and one about a haircut that goes wrong!!
