Tuesday: Being kind to ourselves

This week we are thinking about our mental health and how we can look after it.

Being kind to ourselves, which we call self-care is very important for our physical and mental wellbeing.

When we are kind to ourselves it helps our minds and bodies to relax and regulates our emotions which helps us to feel good in our bodies and mind.

There are things we should try to do every day that will help us with this, such as, eating healthily, getting enough sleep, getting fresh air, exercising or movement breaks, relaxing activities and having fun!

Talking to an adult about any problems or worries that we may have is also a very important part of self-care, as is saying nice things about ourselves and being thankful for what we have, as it reminds us of all the good things we have in our lives and releases feel good feelings.

Do you remember a little while ago at school we made a mental health promise or pledge?

What was yours?

If you can’t remember, have a look at the chart below .It might help you to remember or it might give you some ideas for new activities that will help you to feel good and keep you mentally healthy.

Did you see any activities that you think would help you to feel good?

Task: If you can, tick off which ones you would like to try at some point or ones that you already know help you to feel good, or write them down so you can remember in the future..

Task: This week, really try to do at least one thing a day to be kind to yourself.  Send in a photo, draw or write about what you have done that you have enjoyed and has made you feel good.

Could your family do it with you? Everyone even adults should practise self-care by being kind to themselves.

Here is me and my dad playing a game together.

Carly is going to listen to more Music.

Task:  Think about yourself in a kind way, please complete the following sentences.

I am good at ………………………………………………………………………….

I am a ………………………. Person

I like myself because ………………………………………………………………….

Sometimes people feel uncomfortable saying nice things about themselves but remember we are being kind to ourselves and it does get easier if you practise, if you really can’t think of anything today, ask your parents or carers what they like about you and believe it!

Here are my thoughts about myself.

I am good at swimming

I am a generous person

I like myself because I always try to be kind.
