Woodlands Meed Students get ‘Out on the Water’
A lucky group of students from Woodlands Meed College were invited to participate in a sailing event at Chichester Yacht club recently. The event, run by "Kids out on the water" Rotary clubs, proved to be an exciting nautical adventure for all those involved. The students went on motorboats and sail boats out into the harbour, anchored, ate lunch and then returned to shore. The students all enjoyed their day and would like to say thank you to the volunteers who gave up their time to give them this wonderful experience.
Rotary ‘Kids Out on the Water 2023’ took 71 children in total from special need schools in the South East out on the water in Chichester Harbour in 25 private yachts recently. The children came from 7 different schools in Hampshire and West Sussex from as far away as Woodlands Meed in Burgess Hill and Horsham. The boats departed from Hayling Island, Chichester Marina and Itchener to meet up for lunch at East Head. The RNLI arrived on their boat at lunch time to give a demonstration which was greatly appreciated by the children and boat owners alike. The weather was perfect for the day with light winds an intermittent sun.
The event is now in its 40th year and is arranged by Havant Rotary, Heathfield, Chichester Priory and Chichester Harbour. This is an event that gives enormous pleasure to many children who would not normally have the opportunity to get out on the water. Thanks to all involved and the wonderful boat owners who gave up their free time to make this happen. It was a memorable day for all concerned.
