Intensive Interaction
Intensive Interaction is an approach designed for people who may be non-verbal, pre-verbal or simply enjoy interactions with others without the demands of conventional communication.
In this approach a communication partner responds by imitation to a student’s body language, facial expression, eye contact and vocalisation, at all points allowing the student to lead the interaction.
Through this respectful, enjoyable and therapeutic interaction the communication partners develop rapport, enjoying each other’s company and responding with increasing complexity or attention.
Although this approach is designed for people who may not use speech, these skills of attention and response are fundamental to the development of language and other alternative communication methods.
Intensive Interaction is used spontaneously and in discrete communication sessions to support our students’ social development and wellbeing.
We have training in this approach planned for our complex classes.
